So we enter a new realm with the Murder at Avedon Hill podcast… our first vidcast.
On October 7th Patrick McLean and I did a live reading of his Tales of the Children short story, “The Old God and the Sea.” After the reading we did a Q&A with Chooch (Chooch was on skype).
To make the video a little more fun, especially since Patrick’s story was a bit of a comedy, I’ve added some pop-up elements that hopefully add some humor to the video, and it also helps those watching the video understand what was going on in the Stickam chat room before the reading and during the Q&A.
This video is Pt. 1 (the intro and the reading). Pt. 2 will be released in the feed tomorrow.
For those that want separate feeds for audio and video, that is coming soon, along with a site redesign.

Welcome to the website of P.G. Holyfield, author and podcaster.
Before we go any further, what can you find here?
The Land of Caern is the fantasy setting I’ve been writing and playing RPGs in since 1988.
Back in 2004 I started writing a novel set in The Land of Caern. It began its life as a proposed module for the computer game Neverwinter Nights. I then took the plot from that module and began serializing the story as a text release on the Neverwinter Vault website. After releasing the the first draft of the first half of the novel online, I decided to finish the novel “offline” and try to get it published. I finished the first draft of the novel near the end of 2006.
Early 2006 I discovered podcasting. I began contributing to podcasts in the summer of 2006, and began my own podcast in early 2007. I briefly released Murder at Avedon Hill as a self-published novel through Lulu.com
To learn more about the journey to get Murder at Avedon Hill written in novel form, please visit the page on this site called “The Story Behind the Story.”
I began the podcast version of Murder at Avedon Hill in June of 2007. It is still available on this website, on iTunes, and through Podiobooks.com.
The production ended after 42 episodes on May 21, 2009. Due to the generous help of family, friends, and members of the tribe, MaAH morphed, skirting the line between straight read and audio drama, with over 45 guests adding their voices to the podcast.
You can download episodes directly or subscribe through your aggregator of choice.
Murder at Avedon Hill was picked up by Dragon Moon Press and is due to be published in 2010.
In September of 2009 I began producing a second podcast set in The Land of Caern: Tales of The Children. Tales of the Children is a short story anthology podcast, with stories by me and by some of the best authors in podcast fiction.
This podcast also features live readings of stories on stickam.com!

Here is the audio from my reading at Balticon 44. Tee Morris joined me for an impromptu audio drama reading of Chapter 13 from Murder at Avedon Hill. If you have not listened to the podcast novel, there aren’t really any big spoilers here. It was fun, we didn’t take it too seriously, and everyone seemed to have a good time.
Enjoy!
Promo for The Leviathan Chronicles finale follows the reading.

Since I have spent most of my time on my other site, SpecFicMedia.com, I thought I should add a welcome post here to possible new visitors.
Hi, I’m P.G. Holyfield. I am a podcaster and wrote a novel called Murder at Avedon Hill. I produced an audio version of an early draft of the novel from 2007-2009, which you can find on iTunes and over at podiobooks.com. If you do not use iTunes or some other ‘podcatcher,’ and would like to just download the audio files from here (or listen to them directly on this site), here is the best place to start.
If you are interested in the novel, you can read the first few chapters of the novel here, and you can find print and kindle versions of the novel on Amazon.com
After I finished the podcast of the novel, I started producing a short story anthology called Tales of the Children, based in the ‘world’ where Murder at Avedon Hill takes place. These are stories written mostly by other authors, and I will return to that podcast at some point… soon. What was fun about this anthology was it allowed me to delve into video as well. I did live readings of the stories through stickam.com, then followed with podcasted audio versions of the stories. You can find more information on this short story anthology here.
Currently I am one of the hosts of the Beyond the Wall, a Game of Thrones related podcast where we talk about the HBO series and the books by George R.R. Martin. I am a frequent guest at conventions such as Balticon and Dragon*Con, where I am usually on panels around new media, podcasting, and self-promotion.
I live in Charlotte, NC and have given talks on self-promotion, self-publishing and working with a small publisher, both at local venues and at regional conventions. If you are interested in this or for any other reason, please email me at pgholyfield at gmail dot com
